Last Out

An impactful story at just the right time…

So what does it mean to say that June is PTSD month? First, let’s drop the “D” because we here at Operation Angel Wing do not consider Post Traumatic Stress a “Disorder”. We see it more as an injury that must be overcome, and the very mission of our organization is to help Veterans and First Responders and their families do just that—journey through and beyond Post Traumatic Stress.

But the reality remains that tens of thousands of our Veterans face very real challenges in their lives due to PTS. The scars that accompany many of our warrior’s service to our Nation are deep and often rob them and their families of the peace that can and should follow their dedicated service. Or worse—the suicide rate among our Veterans eclipses that of almost any other demographic within the United States.

So how do we go about helping our men and women of service overcome the challenges of PTS? As a society we can help them find better ground, but it truly will take a collective effort, and it is critical for all of us to first understand the journey.  Is it possible for someone who has never served in the military to truly grasp the dues that are paid by the service members and their families? The answer is, yes.

Our dear friend, Scott Mann has written a story and brought it to life as a cinematic production about modern war that captures the true essence and challenge of military service, both for the warriors and for their families. Every American can connect to this whether they have served or not, and every American should experience Scott’s story. “Last Out” is a surgical truth about the reality of war and the true cost that is paid by our service members and their families. It transcends stereotypes and prejudices and illuminates the true journey, and it is portrayed by warriors and their families who lived it.

This story has also become a very powerful tool for Operation Angel Wing. We have used specific scenes from the film to augment and illustrate our modules within our Trauma Recognition and Response workshops. The impact never fails, and the effect is always a deeper connection and understanding of trauma with those that we teach. This story has proven to provide true context and  understanding, regardless of the person’s connection to military service. Trauma is a human experience, and this film bridges all backgrounds.

Finally, “Last Out” is a unifying experience that helps civilians and employers understand the trauma and challenges that many of our military community face every day. It is a true opportunity to validate the service of our warriors and their families and promote shared perspective across the fabric of our society.

We encourage you to experience this film. Whenever you rent or buy it, the proceeds go to the Heroes Journey non-profit, an organization that is doing amazing work with our warriors, Gold Star Families, and military families by helping them transition home from service through the power of storytelling.

“Last Out” is available right now on the following streaming platforms: Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Google TV, and VUDU. Thank you for supporting our warriors and their families through the power of storytelling!
